Record numbers attend Lib Dem conference

Liberal Democrat Autumn Conference was held in Bournemouth

I returned this week from a few days in Bournemouth where our Autumn Conference has been taking place. Despite the very disappointing General Election result, there was a very positive atmosphere amongst members. There was the highest ever number of members attending. Since the General Election, membership of the party has grown by over 40% nationally, and over 60% here in South Lincolnshire.

Conference is where Lib Dem policy is set and there were some interesting debates on housing, Trident renewal, the European referendum, human rights, and many more subjects. It is also provides an opportunity to take part in training sessions, meet with colleagues from across the country,  and take part in discussions on many important issues.

An event with Norman Lamb MP saw some very powerful contributions from the audience on the subject of mental health and reinforced the importance of the work Norman and others did whilst in Government to improve mental healthcare. There was also some much lighter moments like the Lib Dem Disco.

Sadly I missed Tim Farron’s closing speech to Conference as I was already on the train back home. With a meeting of the Town Council’s Amenities & Open Spaces Committee to attend, I wanted to be sure I wasn’t late.

If, like me, you missed Tim’s speech, you can watch it below and if you like what you hear – join us today
