Lincolnshire County Council have applied for planning permission for a new household waste recycling centre (HWRC) in Bourne. This is to replace the current site on the Pinfold Lane Industrial Estate.
The Council says that as the Pinfold Lane site is privately owned, there is a risk our part of the county will be left without a HWRC if the site operator decided not to retender when the current contract ends in April 2016.
It is LCC policy that 95% of households should be within 12 miles of a HWRC and without the Bourne site that would not be met. LCC have wanted to open a site in the Stamford area but have not been able to identify suitable land.
The new site is to be located off South Fen Road. It will have canopies over part of the unloading area, with solar PV panels for electricity generation subject to the availability of funding.
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue have objected to the proposal due to an inadequate water supply for fire-fighting but advised that this can be addressed if the Council provides an additional hydrant near to the site entrance.
